Templates for the PhD-Procedure (II)
Two weeks before the scheduled defense day, you will get the topic of your scientific talk from the chair of the committee. You will also receive a letter about the time and the topics of the scientific talk and the defense. Then, your task is to keep yourself mentally and physically healthy and to be prepared for that day.
After a successful defense, you need to submit the final version of your PhD-thesis in order to complete the PhD-procedure and obtain your degree. Besides the revision according to the reviewers' suggestions, you need to update the title page of the thesis. The changes, compared to the previous version, are: the defense date, the information of the reviewers, and the time of the submission of the final version. Download a template here.
You have several options to submit the final version (check chapter 14 of the 'Promotionsordnung' for details). We talk only about the relatively economical one (more information is available here). Do the followings after the final version is ready:
- Open this page, click 'Start des Eingabeassistenten', and follow the hints on the page.
- Burn a CD that contains all the necessary files to rebuild your thesis.
- Print and bind your thesis (5 copies).
- Contact the library via email (hochschulschriften at slub-dresden.de) and make an appointment of the submission.
- Submit the CD and the copies according to the time and the place in the reply of your email. You will get an email in a week that confirms that everything about the final version is in order and contains the link of the webpage of your thesis.
- Wait for your degree.
The PhD-procedure is completed when you receive your PhD degree.
