Description The course will explore issues on the role natural language (NL)
processing can play within the increasing number of multimedia (MM)
applications that increasingly influence everyday life. Main topics
to be addressed will be: (1) how to integrate multimedia input including
natural language (spoken or written); (2) how to combine natural
language with other media in order to generate high quality MM output
and (3) how to make use of NL for efficent access to MM archives. The
course will introduce formalisms and standards to be used
for this integration task, the MPEG-7 standard being central here.
