Description
The theory of IF ("Independence-Friendly") logic (Hintikka, Sandu) has
developed rapidly in recent years, contributing to the formal
understanding of semantic and pragmatic phenomena in logic,
linguistics and the foundations of mathematics. The allied
game-theoretic approach to interpretation (Game-Theoretic Semantics,
GTS) has revealed significant phenomena underlying structures of logic
and language. The fundamental insight of IF logic is the
systematisation of informational independence together with the
ensuing imperfect information of the underlying class of games.
Topics covered:
1. GTS, IF logic, Informational Independence, Branching Quantifiers.
2. Henkin Quantifiers, Semantic Games of Imperfect Information.
3. IF-ing Logic: IF FOL, Propositional IF Logic, Negation.
4. IF Modal Logic, Semantic Pluralism.
5. IF Diagrammatic Logic, Selected Issues on GTS.
Prerequisites: Familiarity with FOL and basic modal logic.
